Bio
Zain is a technology executive and venture capital investor with 15+ years of experience in enterprise, consumer, and healthcare technology investing, as well as strategy, M&A, business development, and startup operations. He is currently a Venture Investor for the Amazon Alexa Fund, Amazon’s VC fund investing in artificial intelligence (AI), frontier tech, robotics, voice, and digital health across consumer and enterprise. Over the past 5 years, Zain has sourced, led, or managed 30+ Alexa Fund VC investments, including Greenlight (fintech) – $2.3-billion valuation, Owlet Baby Care (consumer health) – $1.1-billion exit, SmartRent (property tech) – $2.2-billion exit, SevenRooms (property tech), Fiddler (AI), Embodied (robotics), and June Oven (consumer / deep tech). He has spearheaded the Alexa Fund’s investment focus on AI and ML tools, enterprise and collaboration, healthcare, aging, robotics, property tech, financial tech, and mobility. Zain has also led programs — including the Women Founders Represent pitch competition (with All Raise) and workshops at AfroTech World (with Blavity) — focused on underrepresented founders to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Zain’s experiences span venture capital at Amazon Alexa Fund (early-stage venture capital to growth equity), startup operating leadership and business development at Pocket Gems (consumer internet), growth equity investing at Warburg Pincus, and M&A and investment banking at Goldman Sachs. Beyond his professional experiences, he has volunteered since 2000 in urban community service and international development, primarily in the fields of education and youth development, through the Aga Khan Development Network (global NGO). Zain is a graduate of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the Stanford Graduate School of Business.
