Contemporary Artist, Artpreneur,

Bio

Millicent is a Contemporary Artist and Artpreneur in Abuja, Nigeria. Growing up, she was influenced by her father, a self-taught artist  who often decorated their family home with his art works. Millicent started drawing and painting at an early age which meant that art has been an intrinsic part of her life.

Her journey in the contemporary art world was in no small measure shaped under the endearing tutelage of Mr. Eriwona, her Fine Art Teacher at the Federal Government Girls College Onitsha. She also went on to study Fine and Industrial Art at the University of Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, where she earned a B.A in Painting. In 2005, Millicent started her full-time studio practice in the City of Abuja, where she currently works out of her Private Visual Art space, the Colourmimi Studio.

Through her works Millicent has driven topics such as the state of the woman in modern society, the essence of community and the environment. While she is careful not to arrogate an expert status to herself on social issues, she has equally maintained a strong stance through a constantly evolving body of works.

Millicent’s works explore human existence holistically. Diverse personal and professional experiences have gone on to further influence her choice of topics, which culminates into a vibrant kaleidoscope of exhibitions, commissions, collaborations and accolades. Through the skillful engagement of diverse themes, natural and abstract, she imbues her works with character and emotional wealth. The boldness of her pieces allows a subtle provocation that invites her audience to freely engage on otherwise sensitive or taboo topics.

Her passion for experimentation and exploration of diverse media, means that she often looks for avenues to bring her thoughts about existence to life through art. Millicent is currently researching on human experience within the context of art therapy; an initiative that she hopes will allows her art to positively help people resolve stress and anxiety,  while learning new social skills, and improving self-esteem and awareness.

As a serial Artprenuer Millicent engages you with the functionality of art through adaptations of her works on diverse media and everyday items. She believes that everyday consumption of art is an integral part of sustainable human capital development. Some of her operations include: Painting, Photography, Sculpture, Dye sublimation, Upcyling, Art Installation, Craft making and Digital Art.
