Margot Cooijmans
Bio
Margot Cooijmans joined Royal Philips in December 2016 as the Director of the Philips Foundation.
Trained as a lawyer (Master) and after being a company lawyer for three years in a listed publishing company, Margot started setting up her own businesses and led companies to growth.
Before joining Philips, Margot was an entrepreneur for 23 years. Took courses in finance, marketing and sales. She built up a marketing- and wholesale company in food supplements and sold that once it had matured. Between 1997 and 2007 her consultancy firm Good Company provided board room advice regarding corporate social responsibility and sustainability, as well as societal aspects of supply chain management and partnerships between with humanitarian organizations and the private sector.
The last 9 years before joining Philips, she was the co-owner of a hotel operating company,. Meanwhile also trained as a real estate broker, she was responsible for the realization and funding of (sustainable) real estate for her own company’s hotel operations portfolio, in collaboration with Marriott International. This company now has over 200 employees in eight hotels, and is still growing.
The intersection area between the private sector and society, has always fascinated Margot, taking a result driven approach to achieve societal impact paired with financial results.
Now, for the first time in a not-for-profit role, Margot changed the way the Philips Foundation supports society. In alignment with the capacities of the Philips company, the mission of the Philips Foundation is reducing healthcare inequality by providing access to quality healthcare for disadvantaged communities, serving SDG 3, and collaboration is key SDG17. In doing so, Philips Foundation deploys the capabilities, expertise and innovation skills of Royal Philips as a healthcare technology company. One of the various ways the Foundation uses to create the desired impact, is through collaboration with social entrepreneurs that provide access to quality healthcare for underserved communities.
In September 2021, Margot has set up Philips Foundation Impact Investments BV as a 100% subsidiary of Philips Foundation, in order to invest in scalable, sustainable digital healthcare solutions (enterprises) for underserved communities.
